Our father/Joszef was grateful that he came to Sweden after fleeing Hungary in 1956, and the opportunities he got to be able to create a new life here.
Our father/Joszef started studying at the technical high school in Gothenburg and graduated as a civil engineer in the early 1960s. It was in that profession he remained throughout his career until his retirement.
His great passions in life were travel, food, good wines and above all his carpets. He got interested in carpets early on, not least through a friend, Tore Lüppert, who had a carpet shop in Gothenburg and whom he got to know in the early 1970s.
The carpet interest continued to grow and he joined the AKREP carpet club in Gothenburg, where he was active throughout all the years it existed. Several trips were made with the carpet club, including to Turkey to purchase carpets and visit various carpet restorers/dealers. He was also a valued lecturer at the carpet club, where he shared his knowledge.
Our father/Joszef built up a solid collection of rugs over the years, and at most there were over 100 rugs in his collection. These rugs were catalogued, and each rug was given its own sheet where all the facts were carefully described.
It was a highlight of his ”life achievement”, when Joszef organized a large carpet exhibition in Gothenburg to show his large collection. The exhibition was shown both at the City Library and at the Frölunda cultural center.
