With artist’s studio stamp in Cyrillic on the reverse: ”Sergei Ivanovich Vasilkovsky/Ekaterininskaya Street No. 69”.
With number ”4” on the reverse.
The present lot is painted on a cabinet card which comes from Alexei Ivanitsky’s (1854‑1920) photostudio. The card is marked in Cyrillic: ”A.M. Ivanitsky, Kharkiv”. Ivanitsky was not only a famous photographer but also a close friend to Vasilkovsky. They went to the same gymnasium in Kharkiv where they became friends and later also colleagues. They travelled and worked together, learning about new places and people through photography and artworks.
Melinda Liebe (1890‑1976), acquired during the 1910s or early 1920s when Liebe was working at the German Consulate in Kharkiv.
Thence by descent to the present owner.
