The Kenneth Åberg collection

To be sold at our Important Sale: Modern & Contemporary Art + Design & Watches 12 – 14 November 2024

Kenneth Åberg (1943-2012) was a prominent Swedish art dealer, based in Gothenburg, whose name became synonymous with quality and passion in the Swedish art world. With his keen eye for detail and genuine love for the power of art, he succeeded over many decades in creating a unique bridge between artists and collectors. Through his many exhibitions and collaborations, Kenneth contributed to highlight established masters as well as young, promising artists.

Kenneth moved from Malmö to Gothenburg during the 1960s. He worked as a delivery man and taxi driver during the day. Kenneth wanted a job he could do in the afternoons and evenings. Without any previous experience in the art world, he took a loan of SEK 15.000 from the bank to put together his first exhibition. That was the start of a long and successful career.

For those who knew Kenneth personally, he leaves behind a void that can be measured not only in professional accomplishments, but in all the lives he touched with his presence and genuine heart. His legacy lives on through his children and the countless people he touched through his work, and the works he helped spread around the world.

Kenneth bought and sold art via Uppsala Auktionskammare for many years. When we, Kenneth’s children, decided to auction a part of Kenneth’s collection, it was obvious to us that it was going to be at Uppsala Auktionskammare that the sale would take place. It is especially funny that Uppsala Auktionskammare today runs its business in Gothenburg from the premises where Kenneth ran Kenneth Åbergs Konsthandel for over 40 years.
